cuando estaba terminando el proyecto de "te fuiste antes de que pudiera volver", natalia lafourcade empezó a compartir el pódcast y luego su último álbum: de todas las flores. escuchar sobre su proceso creativo tan lleno de sentimientos, al estar yo en un momento de reflexión sobre mi proceso creativo tan lleno de sentimientos, me movió mucho. resoné mucho con todo, me sentí muy inspirada.
como había ilustrado canciones de la nueva canción como parte de mi proceso, y como veo el trabajo de natalia tan relacionado a toda esa música, me surgió la necesidad de ilustrar las canciones. la música para mí está muy llena de imágenes, toda la poesía. son imágenes surreales, que en general (en la música que suelo escuchar) contienen personas, elementos de la naturaleza, y música. así salieron las ilustraciones para estas canciones, con estos tres grupos.
el resultado está en el orden que salen las canciones en el álbum, y más explicación que cada canción no se necesita.
when i was finishing up my project "you left before i could come back," natalia lafourcade started releasing the podcast and then her last album: de todas las flores (of all flowers). listening about her creative process, so full of feeling, whilst being at a moment where i was reflecting about my own creative process, so full of feeling, it moved me a lot. it all felt very close, and i felt very inspired.
as i had illustrated songs from the "nueva cancion" movement during that process, and because i see natalia's work so related to all that music, i felt the need to illustrate her songs. music for me is full of images, all poetry is. they are surreal images, that usually (in the music i tend to listen) contain people, elements of nature, and music. and that is how these illustrations came out, with these three groups.
the result is here, in the order the songs come up on the album. there is no more explanation needed than the songs.

ilustré la primera mitad antes del viaje (buenos días américa del sur), y llegué del viaje a terminarlas. desde el inicio tuve la duda del medio. en mi práctica me gusta mantener (al menos por ahora) la versatilidad de medios, porque creo que según lo que se quiera representar existen distintas plataformas para hacerlo. aparte de eso claramente está el goce del experimentar. al inicio hice unas ilustraciones donde mezclé pintura acrílica, lápiz y lápices de palo, pero el estilo que trabajé (o sea más allá de los medios utilizados, la forma de representar los elementos incluidos) no me gustó.
la pausa del viaje fue buena, porque al darme distancia del proceso y volver a retomar los bocetos, me quedó un poco más claro cómo los quería desarrollar. hacía tiempo que tenía ganas de intentar retratos más realistas, entonces mantuve la precencia del lápiz y eso me dio dibujos que me gustaron bastante. todos los basé en fotos de la natalia lafourcade que encontré en internet, pero al final salieron algunas caras un poco distintas. otra cosa que he querido desarrollar en mi práctica también es el uso de color. usar color me pone bastante insegura. así que hice unos "bocetos" con procreate, y a partir de ese trabajo después pegué los dibujos a lápiz (que fueron escaneados, impresos, y remarcados con tira líneas para un mayor contraste) y complementé con pintura acrílica.
i illustrated the first half before our trip (buenos dias america del sur), and i came back to finish them. from the start i was a bit confused on the medium i should use. in my practice, i like to keep (at least for now) versatility of mediums, because i think that depending of what one wants to represent, there will be a different platform or canvas to do it. then, of course, there is the joy of experimentation. and so at the beginning i had done some illustrations where i mixed acrylic paint, pencil, and colour pencils - but the style they were coming out in (not necessarily because of the medium but more the way i was representing the elements) i did not like.
the pause of the trip was great, because after having some space from the process and taking it back up, it was a bit more clear how i wanted to develop and go on with it. it had been a while since i had wanted to try doing more realistic portraits, and so i maintained the pencil and did just that with pictures of natalia lafourcade that i found online (not all of them look like her at the end, but that is something i like about random portraits: who are they?). another thing that i have been wanting to develop in my practice is the use of colour. using it makes me feel pretty insecure, so before i went on to paint i did some "sketches" on procreate, and it was based on them that i then worked gluing the pencil portraits (which i scanned and printed, then highlighted with a liner for higher contrast) and complemented it with acrylic paint.
